Franklin Fellowship in Music/Visiting

The Franklin Fellow is a three-year visiting assistant professor position for those who have completed a doctorate
within the past three years. It is designed to help launch a person’s career in higher education.
Our current Fellow Andrew Trachsel was recently awarded interim Director of Bands at Ohio University.
Position Description: Full-time, non-tenure track position in Band and Music Education;
ten-month appointment is for the academic year but is renewable for up to two additional years subject to satisfactory performance
and continued availability of funds. Summer employment also possible. Appointment beginning
in August, 2008.
Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Bands as needed in all aspects
of a major university band including assisting with the Redcoat Marching Band. Teach courses in music education
and band. Possible areas of instruction may include conducting, woodwind methods, jazz, instrumentation/
arranging, and instrumental music literature. Assume administrative duties with the band area as appropriate and participate
in outreach activities to include summer camps, festivals, and seminars. The successful candidate is expected
to work collegially with the professional faculty and staff and to participate on a regular and ongoing basis in the professional development activities of the UGA Institute
of Higher Education.
Credentials: Appropriate doctoral degree recently received from an institution
other than the University of Georgia. Public/private school music teaching experience.
Salary: $35,384 beginning August, 2008 plus a 2% raise in January, 2009 to a final salary of $36,092.

Assistant Director of Bands - The University of Akron

ONE-YEAR POSITION
Responsibilities: One-year position with responsibility for all aspects of the athletic band
program including direction of the marching band and supervision of pep bands for men’s and women’s basketball.
Primary duties include coordination with the athletic department, drill design, band camp, rehearsals, performances,
and assist with all aspects of a comprehensive university band program. Additional teaching responsibilities
will include conducting the university concert band and teaching a marching band techniques course.
Required Qualifications: Masters Degree in Music. A record of successful college and/or high school marching
band experience required.
The School of Music, one of seven academic units within the College
of Fine and Applied Arts, is located in Guzzetta Hall. With a full-time faculty of 28 and a part-time faculty
of 56, the School has an undergraduate and graduate student body of more than 400 music majors. The School
of Music offers both a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and a Bachelor of Music degree with options in music education, performance,
composition, jazz studies, and history and literature. In addition, the Master of Music degree is available
with concentrations in music education, composition, performance, theory, history and literature, accompanying, and music
technology. The 17 acre campus, with 76 buildings, is within walking distance of downtown Akron and is

Assistant Director of Bands - University of Kentucky

Position: Assistant Director of Bands, non-tenure track, one-year
appointment beginning August 1, 2008
Description/Duties: The University of Kentucky is seeking
an Assistant Director of Bands to help expand the prominence of a nationally recognized and highly visible university band
program. The Assistant Director of Bands will serve as co-director of the University of Kentucky Wildcat
Marching Band and director of the UK Pep Bands and the UK Concert Band. Duties will also include working
directly with the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands in the administration of all UK Bands programs, including
recruitment, publicity, festivals, and summer camps. Teaching responsibilities may include marching band techniques, conducting,
or music education as assigned.
Qualifications: Masters degree required, doctorate preferred.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate a successful track record in leading marching and concert bands, with teaching
experience at the university and public school levels strongly desired.
