Graduate Assistantship in Bands - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Department of Music announces the immediate opening of one full Graduate Program Assistantship in the Bands operational area. The successful candidate will gain admission to the UWM Graduate School, UWM Department of Music, and enroll in a full-time schedule of courses in the Master of Music-Wind Conducting program with participation in the studio of Dr. John Climer, Director of Bands (08-09). Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience and/or whose primary instrument meets the needs of the Bands area. The Graduate Program Assistantship package is valued at approximately $20,000 annually, which includes a Non-Resident Tuition Remission (for non-Wisconsin residents), full in-state tuition remission, a stipend of approximately $7600 per academic year, and a benefits plan. Band Music Education Graduate Assistant in Band Music Education – University of Texas at San Antonio (posted 4-10-08)

Responsibilities: Assist with teaching and administrative aspects of  the total band program.  Primary conducting responsibility is the Rowdy Roadrunner Pep Band. Perform in an Instrumental Ensemble each semester. Conducting opportunities with the UTSA Bands and Ensembles as assigned. Additional duties will be assigned as required by the needs of the
department.


Stipend: $7000 (approx., pending funding) for the 9-month academic year (September-May). 


Tuition and fees: Waiver for out-of-state tuition and fees. In-state tuition and fees apply.


Renewal: Renewal is based on an annual review of the Graduate Students academic performance, performance of assigned duties, needs of the department, and available funds.

The Department of Music: The University of Texas at San Antonio Department of Music, consisting of over 275 music majors, offers the graduate degree Master of Music with concentrations in Music Education, Performance and Conducting.  A flexible degree plan offers the graduate student an opportunity to mold the curriculum to their individual interests. 


The Bands at UTSA:  The bands at UTSA consist of two full concert bands, chamber winds and a basketball pep band. RESPONSIBILITIES (20 hours each) include assisting the Director of Bands and Assistant Director of Bands in teaching and administering University Bands ensembles:

- Saluki Pep Band (men’s and women’s basketball)

- Wind Ensemble (including podium time if a wind conducting major)

- Symphonic Band

Graduate Assistantship in Band - University of Texas Arlington

Benefits: A benefits package that includes medical, life, accidental death and dismemberment insurance is also provided. At the present time, half of the cost of these benefits is paid by the state; coverage begins 90 days after the first day of employment. Optional vision and dental insurance is available for a small fee.

Marching Band Graduate Assistant Positions - Towson University

Positions: Two full time graduate assistantships available for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Assistantships are renewable for four semesters pending satisfactory evaluation.  The position, for the first year, begins with band camp on August 18, 2008 and continues through May 29, 2009.

Qualifications:  Applicants must have knowledge of contemporary marching band techniques specializing in percussion, color guard, or marching.  Applicants should have good organizational skills along with computer/internet skills and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Word and Excel).  Applicants must be accepted into a Towson University graduate program in music.

Duties: Duties include assisting the marching band director with the administration, instruction, and operation of the TIGER Marching Band and Pep Band.  Duties as assigned by the band director will include, but are not limited to: section rehearsals, oversight of rehearsal field preparation, and instrument inventory, driving equipment vehicles, management of electronic equipment, recording of rehearsals, distribution of information to students, travel plan assistance, assistance with duties associated with hosting marching competitions.  Graduate assistant duties average 20 hours per week.

Stipend:  An annual stipend of $5,000, band camp compensation of $1,000, and a tuition waiver of $8,800.  Total assistantship package is worth up to $14,800.

The Graduate Assistant in the Department of University Bands at Troy University assists the Director of Bands and the Associate Director of Bands with the day-to-day operations, logistical as well as administrative, of the Troy University Sound of the South Band Program.  Some of these operational duties will include maintaining, modifying and improving the library database, including preparations for online availability.  Maintenance and monitoring of the Troy University Bands Perusal and Lending Library housed off-campus is also necessary. Development and implementation of library procedures and supervision of undergraduate student librarians will also be required.  In addition to these duties, the Graduate Assistant performs in the Symphony Band, assists with the Sound of the South Pep Band, and conducts and performs in other ensembles as needed.

Assigned Duties

- Create and maintain band library catalog

- Create, maintain and operate various library databases for use by the Director of Bands

- Assist with the securing and distribution of per diems for each band trip

- Assist with logistical needs as necessary

- Oversee storage, inventory and assignment of all university-owned music

- Supervise undergraduate student librarians

- Maintain attendance rosters for all ensembles including the Sound of the South Marching Band, the Symphony Band, Concert Bands, Pep Bands, etc. as needed.

- Work with and direct the Sound of the South Pep Band as directed by the Assistant Director of Bands

These duties are performed throughout the year, including the summer.  The Graduate Assistantship is $7,000 annually, plus out-of-state tuition waiver or in-state tuition waiver up to 6 credit hours per semester.  The graduate program offered is a Master of Science in Music Education.

Graduate Assistantships in Percussion - University of Arkansas

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-  Teach and assist with direction and coordination of the battery percussion section of the Razorback Marching Band.

-  Arrange music and technique development exercises for the battery section of the Razorback Marching Band. 

-  Assist with teaching of undergraduate percussion majors and non-major applied lessons.

-  Assist in coordination of percussion ensembles, including directing and arranging opportunities with steel band program.

-  Perform in and assist in supervising the percussion sections of large performance ensembles.

Graduate Assistantships in Band/Music Education – McNeese State University (posted 1-23-08)

2008-2009 Academic Year

The McNeese State University Bands are announcing three openings for graduate assistants beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year. The MSU band program includes the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Cowboy Marching Band, and Cowboy Basketball Band.

Position 1: Graduate Assistant: MSU Percussion Area.

Responsibilities: Assist the professor of percussion studies with the administration and instruction of the MSU drumline and percussion ensemble. Additional duties include equipment management and teaching overload lessons (for qualified candidates).

Positions 2 & 3: Graduate Assistants: MSU Bands.

Responsibilities: Assist with marching band show preparation, performance and administration of the Cowboy Marching Band, including drill design and/or music arranging.  Assist, conduct and administer the basketball band.  Additional conducting opportunities with the wind symphony and symphonic band are available and are commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications.

POSITIONS: Graduate Assistantships available to assist and perform with Oklahoma State University Bands.
