ASCAP to Credit Performances of Band/Wind Ensemble Works
Commencing with the October 1, 2008 Survey Year, ASCAP will credit
Concert Band/Wind Ensemble works performed by duly licensed College, University or Conservatory ensembles for which programs
are submitted to ASCAP, on a per count, or census basis. However, although these performances will be credited as large ensemble
works, their monetary value will be subject to the funds available for distribution in the Educational licensing pool in each
Survey year.
Implementation is being made in recognition of the
important contribution to the repertory by composers of Concert Band/Wind Ensemble works, and in response to the fact that
performances of these works occur primarily in the Educational field. All other works performed in the Educational field will
be credited based upon the annual ASCAP sample survey of performances by licensed Colleges, Universities and Conservatories,
with the exception of those performances related to a "residency" by a non-faculty composer invited to perform,
teach master class(es), conduct, or supervise performances of his/her works for which a fee of $1500 or more is paid to the
visiting composer. In those cases, all performed works related to the residency will be removed from the Sample Survey, and
credited on a complete count or census basis in the Professional Recital category.
